Cool Climate Wines with Altitude

This elevated region is dominated by the extinct volcano Mount Canobolas which lifted and developed above the old sedimentary landforms of the Lachlan Fold Belt approximately 11My ago.

The Cargo Road winery is situated on the sheltered northern slopes of Mount Canobolas at an elevation of 860m.  The first vines were planted in 1983, which makes them some of the region's oldest vines.  The vineyard is largely unirrigated and planted on deep red basalt and clay based loam soils.

Cargo Road Wines is a small vineyard with 16 hectares of established vines.  Winemaker James Sweetapple (pictured left) makes white wine varieties including Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Gewurztraminer, and the iconic red styles of Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Barbera and his signature Zinfandel.  Recent awards at the 2017 Orange Wine Show include:  Gold 2017 Riesling, Silver 2016 Reserve Shiraz.

AWC has recently partnered with Cargo Road Wines to bring these cool climate wines with altitude to your venue.  To enquire for a tasting at your venue please email ghart@awconline.com.au
